Toxic Tour: West Oakland
Multimedia news series investigating toxic air quality and health issues in West Oakland. The project was a crowdfunded collaborative experiment between a reporter, photographer, editor and the nonprofits newsdesk.org and fundraising platform Spot.us.
Through grassroots online promos and community contributions, money was raised to fund a series of stories and multimedia to tell the stories of people living in West Oakland, CA which has one of the highest rates of asthma in the state. The project is a winner of the Society of Professional Journalist’s Sigma Delta Chi Award.
